Abstract

As one of the well-established branches of linguistics, sociolinguistics becomes one of the compulsory subjects in English Department of Islamic Higher Education in Indonesia intended to equip the students with insight into the results of scientific investigations related to language variations in society. Unfortunately, sociolinguistics learning materials are affected by a dichotomous knowledge paradigm that separates science and religion and views the language diversity studied in sociolinguistics as a social reality that occurs naturally without any relation to the existence of God and religious values. This paradigm is contrary to the integrated knowledge paradigm which affirms the integration of those entities as promoted by all Islamic Universities. This research discusses the typology of integration of sociolinguistics as a course and the Qur’anic moral values. By employing the library research, this research found two main typologies of integration of sociolinguistics contents and the Qur’an, those are: mutual integration type and philosophical integration type. The former occurs when the Qur'anic moral values have a direct connection to the learning materials of sociolinguistics. On the contrary, a philosophical type is used when the integration of two entities conducted through exploring the spirit of the Qur’anic verses.
