Abstract

This study deals with analyzing language proportion and their repercussion in language policy and linguistics landscape. The objectives of this study are to analyze the proportions of language in the linguistic landscape of Medan, Indonesia and to investigate the proportions of the language mapped on to the language policy of Indonesia. Descriptive qualitative are used to as research method. The sources of the data are photographs of objects from both government and private signage that had been selected in specific public domains neighborhoods of the Medan, Indonesia. The data are language landscapes that are taken from photograph of selected objects. The results of the study, there are 13 languages proportion of advertisement billboard, 21 languages proportion of commercial shop sign, 9 languages proportion of house complex, 14 languages proportion of building/ place name, 9 languages proportion of road sign.
