Abstract

Like other industries in the world, the Indonesian motorcycle industry has also experienced fluctuations due to the dynamics of VUCA environmental change due to globalization, technological disruption and natural disruptions such as natural disasters or the Covid 19 pandemic. We chose supply chain agility and business intelligence because these variabels considered as the most important organizational capability to deal with environmental changes in Indonesian motorcycle industry. Previous researchers have studied both research variables independently, but never studied them together in one research model. Regarding how the role of supply chain agility functions as a dynamic capability that reconfigures ordinary capability (in this case business intelligence) to produce better firm performance has never been explored in any research. This study aims to determine the effect of business intelligence, innovation capability and supply chain agility on the firm performance of motorcycle industry in Indonesia, and use the results of this research to deal with VUCA environmental conditions. The research was conducted on 200 companies in supply chain of the Indonesian motorcycle industry, both OEM and component suppliers. The results of this study are expected to provide an opportunity to validate the theory developed in the world of management and to generalize some of the previous findings. This study is expected to add references and information for practitioners in the motorcycle industry in formulating policies to gain superior firm performance through business intelligence and supply chain agility, and can provide recommendations in dealing with VUCA environmental conditions. From the research results we found that business intelligence has a positive and but not significant direct effect on firm performance, while through supply chain agility mediation shows a positive and significant effect. Supply chain agility has a significant positive direct effect on firm performance, so under current conditions it is suggested that the motorcycle industry focus more on supply chain agility. The implications for managers and academics are discussed and the limitations of the research are indicated in this paper.
