UTILILAZATION OF INTERNET AND ACADEMIC LIFE OF GRADUATINGTEACHER EDUCATION STUDENTS OF EASTERN VISAYAS STATE UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to determine the utilization of the internet of the respondents in terms of usefulness, availability, and reliability; to assess the academic life of the respondents along education, board exam, and research writing; and to identify if there is a significant relationship between the utilization of the internet and the academic life of the respondents.The study used a descriptive-correlational research design, utilized a structured survey questionnaire as the instrument of data collection, and it was conducted at the Eastern Visayas State University, Main Campus for the academic year 2018-2019. The study has 236- sampled respondents, with a 5% margin of error using Slovin’s formula. The finding shows that the majority of the utilization of the internet in terms of usefulness (3.44), availability(3.39), and reliability (3.39) which can all be interpreted as advantageous. This result in the utilization of internet got an average weighted mean of 3.39 which can be interpreted as advantageous. Meanwhile, the academic life of the respondents in terms of education (3.32,advantageous), pre-board examination (2.40, partially advantageous), and thesis writing (3.39, advantageous) has an average mean of 3.03 which can be interpreted as advantageous. As to the relationship, internet utilization and education are found to be significantly related, internet utilization and pre-board examination are also found to be significantly related, while on the internet utilization and thesis writing only one (1) parameter which is usefulness to thesis writing is found to be significantly related while the other two (2) parameters on internet utilization which are availability and reliability when correlated to thesis writing are found to be not significantly related. From the findings and results of the study, the following conclusions were drawn: the internet utilization in terms of usefulness, availability, and reliability was found advantageous, the academic life along education, pre-board examination, and thesis writing was found to be advantageous, and finally the relationship between the internet utilization in terms of usefulness, availability, and reliability and academic life specifically education and pre-board examination were found to be significantly related. Whereas, when internet utilization specifically on availability and reliability and academic life specifically on thesis writing was correlated, it was found out to be not significant except for internet utilization in terms of usefulness and academic life in terms of thesis writing, it was found out to be significantly related. Therefore, this study recommends that the EVSU administrators should provide additional computers with an internet connection to all graduating teachers education students, they must monitor the utilization of every student when doing their surfing on the interne, faculty members should recommend their students to take the different test banks on the internet and suggest obtaining soft copies of a general, professional and primary field of specialization books, and every faculty member should update his/her students about different websites and disclosing the exact links.
