INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY: A FORMIDABLE SOFT POWER
India arguably has the one of the most developed and globalised film industry. Present Indian government disposition has started deploying the power of Indian Film Industry in their international interactions in an efficacious manner. India’s soft power outside its territorial boundaries, accrues out of its cultural and civilizational influence. Emphasising relevance of contemporary India’s film industry, this article suggests that the globalisation of the country’s popular cinema, supported by a large diaspora, has created feasibility of enhancing India’s public diplomacy. It investigates the global imprint of this cinema as an effective tool of soft power.
