Abstract

A mixed method research on private school teacher job motivation in Nigeria within a crisis period is uncommon. This study revealed teachers need for physical and financial security during crisis and evidenced how prominent and negligible factors - teachers’ context, educational policies, school and individual factors exacerbates low job morale for private school teachers, then identified the corresponding approaches to address them. This study concluded with recommendations for good teacher-community social cohesion, clear career pathways for the teachers, small-large scale professional development programs, teacher recognition and appreciation, regularly reviewed teacher remunerations, teacher involvement in decision making, and cordial headteacher-teacher relationship.
