CONTEXT, CYBERPRAGMATICS, AND MANAGING RAPPORT ON SOCIAL MEDIA: ANALYZING THE IMPORTANT ROLES OF CONTEXT IN SOCIAL MEDIA INTERACTIONS

Abstract

Social media interactions are gaining ground in recent years. As the increase of the social media platforms in recent days and the features that they offer to their users, people tend to communicate by using their social media accounts. Social media users can share their daily activities or special events that they attend in videos or pictures and these videos or pictures will then get some responses from other users who are usually their relatives, friends, family, and even people that they barely know. Social media also allow their users to write some comments about certain things which in turn will be responded by other users who read the comments. In this situation, social media users may interact one another by replying to certain comments and sometimes it makes a very long chain of comments. This chain of comments is frequently filled with arguments due to several reasons. One of the reasons is the failure in understanding context which consequently ruins the harmonization of rapport among the social media users. This research analyzed the role and the importance of context in social media interactions and how the context affected on the management of rapport of the social media users in their interactions. The data was taken from social media interactions of two different social media platforms. The result shows that context plays some very important roles in order to create a harmonious atmosphere in social media interactions.
