TYPOLOGY OF BALLA' MARIO AS A REFERENCE OF MAKASSAR TRADITIONAL HOUSE IN SOPPENG DISTRICT, SOUTH SULAWESI
This study aims to determine the typology of Balla' Mario in the Sao Mario traditional house area Batu-batu Soppeng, as a product of traditional Makassar architecture built far from land Makassar. The research location is in the area of the Sao Mario traditional house Batu-batu Soppeng, using a survey method to examine traditional Makassar architecture built in the Sao Mario traditional house area, as an architectural work that represents the Makassar ethnicity in the area. The research variables are: architectural typology, which consists of: a) layout, b) spatial planning, c) form, structure and construction, c) stairs, d) decoration. The data in this study is the result of direct observation and documentation in the field. The data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively and then used as a basis for drawing conclusions. The results showed that: 1) The layout of Balla' Mario, facing North and oriented to the Soppeng – Sidrap axis road, although not facing East, is still in accordance with customary provisions, 2) Spatial layout, still following the spatial pattern of the Bugis traditional house Makassar, but there are more rooms, and there is already the influence of modern life by placing bathrooms/WCs in several bedrooms, 3) Shape, structure and construction, in the form of a stilt house, with structural materials made of wood according to the Bugis Makassar traditional house in general, 4) The ladder follows the shape of the traditional Bugis Makassar household in general, with an upright placement in front of the house as a symbol of a true man or a paternalistic symbol that is generally accepted in the Bugis Makassar area. 5) Regarding decoration, almost all types of decoration in Bugis Makassar traditional houses are generally also found in Balla' Mario.
